Cornwall’s Hidden Gems

As someone who loves to explore new places, my recent trip to Cornwall, England, was one for the books. From stunning landscapes and historic castles to vibrant cafes and cozy inns, Cornwall truly exceeded our expectations. Here are some of the highlights of our trip.

Port William Inn

One of our favorite places to stay was the charming Port William Inn. This cozy inn boasts seaside views and a warm atmosphere. It’s an excellent place to unwind, indulge in delicious Cornish cuisine and take in breathtaking vistas. The single-lane road up to the cliffside inn was a little nerve-wracking for this US driver, but we were able to make it to the top without meeting anyone trying to go in the opposite direction. The food was fabulous!

Davidstow Airfield & Museum

The Davidstow Airfield & Cornwall War Museum is an outstanding option for history buffs. This museum has artifacts, personal stories, and exhibits that shed light on Cornwall’s role during wartime. It didn’t appear to be open, but we wandered around the grounds, and a gentleman appeared from one of the buildings and offered to show us around. My husband is a major aviation buff, so we spent quite a bit of time here.

Poldark

If you are a fan of the historical drama Poldark, you will be excited to know that many of the show’s filming locations are in Cornwall, UK. Here are a few popular sites to visit:

  • Charlestown: This picturesque village was used to represent Poldark’s hometown of Truro.
  • Bodmin Moor: This wild and rugged landscape was used to represent the Warleggan’s estate.
  • Porthgwarra: This secluded cove was used to represent Nampara Cove, Poldark’s home.
  • Gunwalloe: This stunning beach was used to represent the wreck of the Elizabeth.
  • Levant Mine and Beam Engine: This former mine and engine were used to represent the Poldark Mine.
  • Porthcurno: This beautiful beach was used to represent the Poldark family’s home at Tregirls.

If you are planning a trip to Cornwall, be sure to add these sites to your itinerary. You will be able to experience the beauty of Cornwall and the magic of Poldark at the same time.

Tintagel

The Port William Inn is located just outside the town of Tintagel. Tintagel is a beautiful village in Cornwall known for its connection to King Arthur. The village is home to Tintagel Castle, which is said to be the birthplace of Arthur. You can explore the castle ruins, learn about the history of the area, and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Other things to do in Tintagel include visiting the Tintagel Toy Museum, taking a walk along the South West Coast Path, and visiting the Tintagel Old Post Office. There are also a number of pubs and restaurants in the village where you can enjoy a meal or a .beverage

Tintagel is a great place to visit for anyone interested in history, nature, or simply enjoying a beautiful coastal setting.

Levant Mine

Levant Mine

Levant Mine is a former copper and tin mine located on the cliffs of Pendeen, Cornwall. The mine was in operation from 1820 to 1930 and is now a National Trust property. Visitors can take a tour of the mine’s underground workings, see the steam-powered beam engine, and learn about the mine’s history.

Levant Mine is a fascinating place to visit for anyone interested in mining history or the Cornish landscape. The mine is located in a beautiful setting, and the tour is well worth taking. The steam-powered beam engine is a particularly impressive sight, and the mine’s history is fascinating.

If you’re planning a trip to Cornwall, I highly recommend visiting Levant Mine. It’s a great place to learn about the region’s mining heritage and enjoy the stunning scenery.
