There is a place where the land ends and the sea begins. A place where civilization and nature blur the line, where the night sky is lit with a spectacle of stars and dancing lights. Welcome to Homer, Alaska, the end of the road.

Homer is perhaps best known for its fishing scene. It is the halibut fishing capital of the world, and fishing enthusiasts from all over make pilgrimages to this coastal town. The area is also famous for deep-sea fishing; the Kachemak Bay is home to a diverse deep-sea ecosystem. The abundance of excellent fish has gifted the city with a plethora of delicious seafood restaurants!

Things to do
Sprinkled throughout downtown are a wide range of restaurants and several art galleries. Not many small towns have the culinary selection of Homer, where there are coffee houses on nearly every corner next to gourmet sandwich shops and upscale restaurants.

Pioneer Avenue is where you’ll find Homer’s arts and culture scene. There are galleries through the street, and the Pratt Museum is just a short walk away. There you’ll become acquainted with Homer’s rich history, as well as culturally significant artifacts. There is also an authentic pioneer cabin! Saloons and wineries also dot the homer coastline.
The nearby Alaska Islands and Oceans Visitor Center also has native wildlife exhibits, allowing you to get extra close to nature! There are beautiful beaches along the coast, and the water is terrific for boating or kayaking!

Spend A Day On The Homer Split
A popular area for tourists and residents alike is the Homer Split. This gravel bar juts almost five miles into the sea. Although narrow, the town of Homer has turned this split into a natural boardwalk. You’ll find shops, restaurants, bars, and art galleries on this rocky strip of land. There are also bed and breakfasts, condos, and docks filled with fishing boats.

Weather
This community of 5,400 residents is protected from extreme cold weather by the Kenai Mountains to the north and east. Winter temperatures don’t usually drop to far below zero degrees, while summer temperatures seldom rise above 70 degrees.
